Lighting the Way: The Iconic Khor al Batah Bridge Project in Sur, Oman
The project that unfolded in Oman was the installation of a new lighting system for the Khor al Batah Bridge, also known as the Ayjah Bridge, located in Sur, Oman. The project was completed in 2023 and commissioned by IMTAC. It aimed to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the bridge, which is an iconic landmark and Oman’s only suspension bridge. Originally built in 2009, the 240-meter bridge significantly reduced travel time between Sur and Ayjah from 20 minutes to just three minutes by road.
The primary aim of the design was to beautify the bridge, benefiting thousands of locals by making their commute more pleasant. To promote sustainability and energy efficiency, an LED system was chosen over conventional light sources. As a result, LiteMagic products were selected for their proven track record in illuminating major landmarks globally.
The installation involved using and incorporating 2 key LiteMagic products which are the LiteMagic GiantEco G2 luminaires (300 pieces) and LiteMagic iGrazer S luminaires (400 pieces). The fixtures were mounted directly on the bridge structure, spaced back-to-back, and installed on the illuminated surface to create a direct view lighting effect.
Overall, this lighting project for the Khor al Batah Bridge in Sur, Oman, represents the power of innovative design and sustainable technology in transforming infrastructure. By choosing LED solutions from LiteMagic and collaborating with respected designers, architects, and contractors, the stunning visual landmark has now enhanced the daily lives of thousands of commuters. This revamped bridge has now become an iconic symbol of progress and modernization in Oman.
